It’s been so cold lately! I was up on a ladder pruning an apple tree in an icy wind when I asked myself, “Why am I working in all kinds of weather? Why am I still doing the work of a twenty-year-old at 75 years of age?”
The answer turned out to be simple. I want to be useful. I want to rest at the end of the day knowing that I’ve been beneficial to ALL living beings.
The news is filled with human conflict and harm to the planet – it’s depressing. But working in my orchards and on this small farm makes me feel that I’m doing something to help the earth become more ecologically abundant and peaceful.
What more could I want from my short life?
