I am a Biological Orchardist. Biological Orcharding has also been called Holistic or Organic Orcharding. I work at creating a healthy, abundant orchard within a biologically diverse ecosystem.
I nurture soil health, provide varied habitats for biodiversity, and use a minimal amount of natural pest and disease controls.
I assume everything within and without the orchard belongs there – including what we call “Pests”. I strive for an ecological balance of insect predators and pests. Pests are just as important as predators in a balanced ecosystem.
My primary task as a Biological Orchardist is to feed our apple trees, insect pollinators & predators, and soil microorganisms. A well-fed tree develops its own natural immune system and provides delicious, nutrient dense fruit.
The spring feeding season for the trees and the soil is over. The official start of Summer is only a few weeks away. That means the nutritional sprays of summer are just around the corner. Yum!
